In 2021, the CBWC launched “Kurios” (the Greek word for “Lord”)—an 8-month opportunity for young adults led by Steve Simala-Grant. It includes a 6- week, immersive cross-cultural experience in Central America. The students live together, cook and eat together, and commit to praying together each day around chores, studies, and new experiences as they visit and serve churches across Western Canada and, this year, Guatemala.
At the moment, the students are visiting Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This week, they are staying at Katepwa Lake Camp, doing some work in the midst of their studies. They spoke at Westhill Park Baptist Church on Sunday. Pastor Kayely provided some teaching on Tuesday. On Wednesday they met with Annabel Robinson and Kayely at the church for lunch and discussion. Annabel has been teaching them remotely throughout the year. They then went on a prayer walk through the downtown and Heritage community before having supper at Pastor Joel’s place with some of our youth. They ended their day by helping to lead chapel at First Baptist Place.
If you are interested in finding out more, visit their website. Please keep these young people in your prayers, praying for safety, growth and direction. Kurios is currently accepting applications for next year’s program. If you know someone who is interested, please pass this information on to them. Finally, donations can be made through their website. Every gift helps keep this program affordable for our young people!
May their devotion renew our faith. May the commitment and sacrifice these young people have made help us to carry on in our work and prayer.
“Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:30-31
The peace of Christ be with you,
Pastor Joel
