There are dark episodes in the bible, nearly incomprehensible and horrific; an event that cannot be right; it cannot be the way. And yet, it is presented as the right thing to do. Either way, there were grave consequences for God’s people and a great cost that would be felt for generations. They had to choose in the midst of a terrible dilemma.
