Hebrews chapter eleven memorably retells the journey made by Saint after Saint over thousands of years.
The author of Hebrews then concludes:
“All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance, they saw and greeted them.”
One generation after another dies, never having seen God’s promises come in full, and yet trusting God to the end. In this way, our faith in God is an epic endeavour, stretching back to the earliest moments in humanity’s self-awareness. We are in this together, with believers around the globe today, and all across time.
Several people from First Baptist will be sharing reflections about people from among us who were faithful to the end, and passed their faith on to us.
Perhaps you might take some time to sit and think about people of faith who have been a part of your life, and give thanks to God for each of them. Perhaps you might take heart to consider that, even if you are not aware of it, you have influenced others every time you took part in prayer, worship, and service within our church family. All of us are caught up in being saved together, “holy partners in a heavenly calling.”
Thank you for continuing to seek God, because your faith touches everyone around you. May God help us to persevere together in love and prayer.
