John Nelson
“Music is more than an art. It is a matter of the heart.” There is a standing joke among clergy and congregational that half of those who attend church, attend because they love the music. Is there a role for music to play in the church, or is music merely entertainment, tradition and taken for granted?
From the very beginning the early Church was noted for what? The Church inherited this from God’s chosen people. Who were God’s chosen people? With only the Old Testament available to the early Church and no other Christian books to study, what role did music play in their stories and teachings about Christ?
What did the Apostle Paul have to say about the part that music should play in the lives of Christians? What great Reformation church leader acknowledged the importance of the role of music in conveying the teachings of Christ? “Next to the Word of God,……!”
