Lenten Journey

A few weeks ago, we entered the season of Lent with a quiet and reflective Ash Wednesday service. In March, we move steadily towards Good Friday and Easter. Every year, we retrace the steps of Jesus toward his suffering and death. May we grow in love, self-control, generosity and kindness to all, and in a willingness to live and die for Jesus.
On the last Tuesday before Lent, we enjoyed games and supper together. There was some excitement when the power went out but our cooks got everything ready without panicking. A blizzard was rolling in that night and several families were away for school break but there was a surprisingly good turnout and lots of games on hand. Some people just enjoyed a chance to visit and relax. There was a lovely spirit to the evening.
Earlier that day, North of 60 enjoyed its annual lunch in Regina’s Floral Conservatory. We heard from one of the volunteers about all that goes in to making sure this space is available to the public. Hundreds of visitors come every day. It is such a beautiful space to visit in winter, packed as it is, full of trees, shrubs and flowers. It is another example of how a city’s health depends upon the grace of its people.
Pastor Cheryl was away for a few days at a final retreat for Pastors preparing for ordination. She was cleared to appear before the Ordination Examination Council in May. Anyone is welcome to travel to Calgary and attend the Examinations. We are sending one or two people officially to share why we have recommended Cheryl for Ordination.
As we begin the watch for signs of spring, may God renew you day by day as you look toward the end and the day of resurrection.
Yours, Pastor Joel
