This Sunday is Ascension Sunday, when we celebrate the ascension of Jesus to the right hand of God the Father, 40 days after his resurrection. The sermon will think through what happened that day, what the reign of Jesus now looks like, and why this matters. In many ways, Jesus’ reign today echoes his ministry on earth, for it is hidden to most eyes, and expresses itself through a serving, suffering church.
The ascension matters because:
1. It shows us what God is like.
2. It shows us the way to live.
3. It gives the ground of our hope.
4. It shows us the future, when Jesus will return in glory, and every knee will bow.
