All Saints is an old tradition celebrated on November 1st. Like other churches, we usually celebrate it on the Sunday following the actual calendar date. For most of us at First Baptist, it is a new and unusual celebration and maybe we aren’t sure what to make of it. We don’t worship the “saints” so what is going on here?

Through the darkest times, through martyrdom, disaster, plague, and war, this was a day set aside to celebrate that Jesus has made death the gateway to life, and that others have gone ahead of us to show us the way and to give us courage.

This year, we invite everyone to set aside the days leading up to the celebration of All Saints’ day and to join in the prayer, fasting, and celebration as they can. This will be a chance to grow in prayer and to reflect on the meaning of this important celebration.

We have tried to create a schedule that allows people to continue with their regular work or activities while adding in more group prayer than usual. All the prayer times will be in the sanctuary and online. On Monday evening, we will begin with a reflection on All Saints and a few words about work and retreat. The retreat ends with a great intergenerational potluck meal together on Friday.

Please speak with one of the pastors if you are interested or for more information.
