Rev. Joel Russell-MacLean

Most people can think of time when they felt lost and alone. It is common in those times to doubt God and oneself.

The Spirit of God led Jesus into wilderness. Jesus had just been baptized, he had just heard God say, “You are my beloved son, I am so pleased with you.” For any of us, that would have been a high point in life. What would it have been like to move from that incredible experience into the wilderness?

Alone and vulnerable, Jesus confronted doubt and temptation. He came through that period of suffering in the wilderness and then began his ministry.

When are going through times of doubting and temptation, we can look to Jesus who trusted God. If Jesus went through this, there is no shame or guilt when it happens to us. In fact, the Spirit may be accomplishing something in us and in the world when we are able to trust in the midst of the hardest times.
