Rev. Joel Russell-MacLean

fbcsermon_GrouchoMarx-RefuseClubMemberJust how low are God’s standards? To find leaders for the young church, Jesus chose young people, some of whom had been passed over, others publicly ostracized, and even his own enemies. Is that the kind of group you want to be a part of of? If you think Jesus was making a mistake, the early disciples would probably agree with you. “God chose people considered weak to shame those who considered great by the world” is how Paul described it.

A successful organization these days lives by the strategy, “Get the right people into the right positions” but the first disciples were not key people who would make the kingdom great, it was the other way around. Being welcomed by Jesus and included changed them. God’s grace came into their lives and transformed them. Jesus healed, forgave, and called them to get up and follow him.
